On January 1st of this year, the new European Union Certification program came into effect. Producers will have to average a 400,000 SCC based on a three month rolling average. At Burnett Dairy Co-op, we’re committed to helping all of our patrons meet this compliance level. No matter where your SCC is, you know you can always benefit by lowering it as much as possible. Not only will you get paid more for your milk with better premiums, but your cows will be healthier and milk more. In fact, mastitis costs a producer an average of about $200 per cow per year and according to studies, 70% of that is in lost milk production. On a 50 cow herd, that’s $7000 per year in lost income from milk. But bringing a high SCC under control can be very frustrating. That is why Burnett Dairy Co-op is offering several services to help producers reach their goals.
